Hurry-up and wait.

I think we are on track to actually harvest some grapes this vintage. Albeit much later in the season than when we would normally harvest and much less fruit than we had hoped for. Late because of the cool summer. Less fruit because of the recent and brief heat spell on August 24th when the temperature soared to 110 degrees. The sun exposed grapes literally fried on the vines and many clusters that were shaded just died. We lost at least 20% of our Zin harvest but it appears the cab was not affected.

I feel lucky. It could have been much worse and for some growers it was. With the extended summer I have a little time on my hands so my wife and I remodeled our pump house and converted it into a chicken shackteau. All the chicks are moved in and they seem very content.
